Shirley Temple

American Red Cross

Cross Your Heart

On May 21, 1881, Clara Barton and a group of like-minded advocates founded the American Red Cross in Washington, D.C. Barton headed the Red Cross for 23 years, conducting its first domestic and overseas disaster relief efforts, and aiding the United States military during the Spanish-American War. For over 120 years, the American Red Cross has been the face of emergency aid.

Each year, the President of the United States proclaims March “Red Cross Month,” an opportunity for the organization to promote its services to the American public. This March, the American Red Cross celebrates raising approximately $1.2 billion to provide crucial aid for Tsunami victims.
